Im having to rebuild my PC/workstation/gaming machine. It has to be able to multitask like mad, so I'm expecting to spend a pretty penny on it.
As such, im doing some shopping and can't decide on a few things.
If you're hardware inclined, give a look and let me know if Im going in the right direction. I havent built a box in about 6+ years, so im a little rusty.
I have ram on hand, about 8-16 gigs to fool around with. If I have to buy new ram, so be it.
Im more concerned with the vid card tbh. Is this a good card to go with? Is there something better? Am I getting a good deal?
I dont mind paying a decent amount for a good vid card. I -really- need the GPU to be kickass as im not wanting to upgrade for a few years. Just as long as my budget doesnt jeopardize me acquiring my Cintiq…
That video card is a beast, I'm running with a 670 and able to cap out everything. First Gen i7, 18GB RAM, couple 300GB HDD's in a RAID1 for OS/core games. If you were looking to maximize performance for the buck:
Fourth Gen i5 (higher end is better) GTX 670 or higher 8-16 GB RAM Small SSD for OS 2 larger SSD for data, set up in RAID if you wanna crush it
Lol, we don't have space for any of the computers, but I have my main rig, 2 laptops, 2 tablets, 2 more desktops and a media center PC, 1 wireless router, 3 switches, working to build my server back up to put it all on domain.
i want to upgrade mine aswell but my paycheck is seriously low. 250 per month :S
this is my specs atm: Memory: 4096MB RAM CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 Motherboard: G31M-S2L
memory and graphics its good enought to play on maximum setings. my only problems is the cpu. option 1 would be a Quad core…..wich is now extinct. option 2 would be a I5 or I7…….. hell to the no on i3 problem with option 2 would mean also a new motherboard…. and motherboard + cpu would be 200 - 300 bucks…… and there would go all of my paycheck… and its not only about be. my best friend has serious Money problems since no one in his family has work except him. and his paycheck is the same as mine. so hes taking care of the hole family with 250 a month. so i like to keep some saved in case he really needs it

Ok, I figured that I was in the right neighborhood but needed some confirmation. Im probably going to go with this build/bundle.
As for the SSDs, should I just google "how to set up multiple SSD in RAID"?
(Totally forgot about SSDs… ugh. Another few hundred on the burner….)

What I had to do Leon is to put aside whatever I could over time from each paycheck. I'm lucky enough to be in the situation that I'm in, and employed doing what I do, but the same principle applies. Not 2 months ago I was getting paid crap, but put aside everything that I could, and didnt spend anything extra, to save up for my impending machine/setup.
I'm lucky and unlucky that I work in technology, so I need to be able to buy new systems, servers, switches, routers, so I set aside money like Vayde, and then write most of it off and depreciate it as assets for work.
I'm probably getting a few more contracts and spending on a 2013 Macbook Pro with an actual videocard. Those can run ARR even on max settings pretty smoothly, according to other players who've tried it. I need to update my work MBP anyways.
