His opinions, not mine. Though, I happen to agree with nearly every point.

It's unfortunate that this instant gratification aspect is bleeding into the genre of MMO's and I do completely agree with him. Dev's shouldn't really be trying to grab box sales; which let's be honest this is what it's been all about recently. Now he seems really pissed (which I am in general as well). MMO's aren't being built like they used to be. Dev's used to approach the game like ,"Let's make the most spectacular game that we can with the technology available". That has more recently changed to, "Let's Make as much money as we can before people jump ship for another game." This whole mantra has left the recent production not only rushed but incomplete and lacking in overall quality; as companies are trying to capture more and more attention in hype initially to sell boxes in hopes that they can in turn churn out something to snag attention later on down the road to warrant a revamp in subs (D3 comes to mind as a prime example). I will agree that the catering to casual aspect of the game has completely ruined what used to be thought of as end-game; which seemingly hasn't existed for me since Vanilla/BC/Wrath in WoW.

I'm not stating that later on changes in wow weren't good but the story-line is what really grasped attention and offered the most staying power imho. It doesn't matter how good of a raid experience you make; if it doesn't feel impact-full on a personal and game wide scale the staying power will dwindle and become apparent very quickly. I think a huge point that developers are missing is that the staying power itself is what determines success; not the amount of box sells one can produce. Why do you think WoW still has 7 mil + subs? I'l tell you it's solely because even though that game has moved more towards the casual aspect it has still managed to retain a semblance of the time-effort-reward system. e.g. you put in the time and maximize your effort and you're rewarded with the best. Most game these days completely cut out the middle man of "effort" and take you straight to reward for a time investment (what casuals pretty much burn the roofs down for). As such the entire genre has suffered with a complete lack of the effort aspect and concordanly the ones that do have challenging content (ffxiv) have a very limited amount of it with a way to bypass the need to do it completely (myth tomes). It makes everything less special and a bit more boring and short-winded in general.

TLDR; all of this just really sways me back to a quote from Field of Dreams , "If you build it they will come" Things hardly pan out when you do,"If they come you will build it."
